Tim Foley

Head of Sales, Founder

Dan Slater's affinity for numbers can best be expressed by the equation of 4.3 x 10π. He's spent his career as an actuary making the complex simple.

Dan launched his career at a leading insurance company and led a team that developed industry leading index and variable annuities with living benefit riders. Many are the retirees that appreciate receiving that guaranteed paycheck.

After careful analysis of the options (there's a theme here) he went out on his own to start Core Income Advisors with his business partners. They realized that matching the right financial product to the right person doesn't have to be a guessing game, it can be proven.

One of Core Income's main focuses is to offer precisely that — deliver Mathematically Superior Results. The adage, "The more you know, the more you grow" has never proven truer. Dan has developed many proprietary research tools to effectively analyze the annuity, life insurance, and hybrid LTC markets with his team. His primary objective is to cut through the hype, get to the actual facts, and develop trust and transparency with advisors.

In his free time, Dan and his wife Ellen like to travel as the sports schedule allows. He enjoys coaching sports for their three boys: Frank 17, Henry 14, and Charlie 11. Needless to say, their stats are up to date and presented in an easy-to-understand, actionable format.

What do you do at Core?

My mission is to provide exceptional service to the advisors I serve, in every stage of the business process. At the same time, I utilize actuarial principles in order to recommend the very best insurance solutions to your clients. Every client is different, so there is no "one size fits all" solution. I'll find the solutions that best fit your clients' portfolios.

Education:

BS in Business from Cardinal Stritch University (that's the one that stuck). Majored in Chemistry, minored in Biology at Minnesota State University Moorhead (then decided I didn't want to be a dentist). Sixth grade spelling bee champion (I carry that pride with me daily).

What do you do outside of work?

Given the opportunity, I think I could golf every day. My scores don't reflect that passion, but I'm OK with it. What I'm really trying to do is get my kids to love golf too so I have more excuses to go! And of course I love spending time with my wife, Tiffany, and our two children, Vera and Archie. But mostly the golf thing.

What do you do that is important to an advisor’s business?

More than anything, I value relationships first. I want to personally know each and every advisor that has chosen me as a trusted resource for their business and their clients. I want to know what their weekend plans are, which sports teams are their favorite (and least favorite), and the countless other things that make them tick. If I know how an advisor works, I can be better suited to providing a fruitful partnership. At the end of the day, I want you to be excited to call and shoot the breeze with me. We can even talk some business if you like!

Outside of work, I enjoy Golfing, Snow Skiing, Boating, and ultimately spending time with my family and friends. Growing up in North Carolina, I was able to enjoy all of those activities almost year round and I'm very fortunate for that. My family is a big part of who I am today and I can't be more appreciative for all they were able to provide me with. So many amazing memories, trips, and lessons along the way. As my Dad, Dennis Howe would say, "Never take for granted a good glass of wine and a beautiful sunset".

What do you do that is important to an advisor’s business?

Ultimately, I believe the most important thing I do is provide a reliable source for information and product knowledge. I want to give Advisors the confidence and reassurance that they are providing their clients with the most optimal solution to fit their clients' needs and goals.

Cooking, grilling, and baking is my form of meditation. I love to make a large meal on a Saturday and host family and friends. Outside of work I enjoy golfing almost any chance I get. That does include in winter when no snow is on the ground. I am still working on a monumental achievement with golf…beating Tim Foley. While I keep telling myself new clubs are going to make me better, I am finding that it might just be in my head. When not making food or golfing I typically enjoy spending time with my family in Madison or at our family cabin in Stone Lake Wisconsin. The family all loves to fish and bird hunt up north. When I am not being active you can typically find me being a couch potato encouraging (some may say yelling) the Packers, Badgers and Brewers.

We have a phenomenal team who does the same and I know that if I can do the controllable' s such as answer the phone, have a good attitude, and do what I say I am going to do it will help deliver better outcomes to advisors.
